PSAT/NMSQT The PSAT/NMSQT is a test usually taken by high school sophomores and juniors.

It gives students a first look at SAT-style questions, but has slightly different score ranges and does not include an essay.

(For this reason, the PSAT is also sometimes called The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.) This exam is offered every October and can only be taken once per year.

For aspiring national Merit Scholarship winners, qualifying PSAT scores are be taken junior year of high school for the purposes of the scholarship.

It’s about applying rules and concepts to questions that are designed not to be straightforward.

Essentially, you’ll have to use a lot of critical thinking.

The Reading and Writing section and the Math section are both scored out of 760, giving a combined max total score of 1520.

Top scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT can qualify for National Merit Scholarships.

An optional Essay section is also offered and is administered at the end of the exam.

Scoring Students receive one point for every correct answer and these points add up to their raw score.
