Jessica Alexander, a senior at Rome High School won third place in the Georgia State Law of Life contest, an international essay contest sponsored locally by the Seven Hills Rotary Club.Four students from Rome were honored for their essays during the April 12 meeting, one from each grade level: Rome High freshman Cole Abbott, sophomore Nathan Tan and junior David Dickson.
6 as part of an innovative landmark program offered jointly by the college and the Schreyer Honors College.
In addition, the winners of the sixth annual Collegiate Laws of Life Essay Contest were recognized at the ceremony. The College of the Liberal Arts inducted 123 students as Paterno Fellows and Schreyer Scholars on Jan. Three students were recognized for their performances in the fifth annual Collegiate Laws of Life Essay Contest, as well.
This year, past winners at the high school level assisted with the judging, officials said.
The school’s winning essays were forwarded to the Akron regional competition, sponsored by the Akron Regional Better Business Bureau, with those results to be announced in late April.

The contest was sponsored by the Paterno Fellows Program and the College of the Liberal Arts.Students selected one of a number of prompts ranging from topics related to technology and print media, pharmaceutical companies, international students and climate change.The contest is overseen by language arts teachers who work with the students on their essays.Officials said district judges score each essay using a rubric matrix designed specifically for the contest.
