Grant’s leading in the Civil War gave a major Union victory when he captured Vicksburg Mississippi.
In March 1863 he crossed the west bank North of the metropolis and moved his forces to a point South of it. The bold move Grant made cut himself off from his beginnings of supply and marched into the inside of Mississippi.

B Du Bois stated in his book that “The slave went free; stood a brief moment in the sun; then moved back again toward slavery.” (Bois W. Eric Foner agreed that yes indeed reconstruction was a failure like post – revisionists would agree but he can also see the side of revisionists who saw reconstruction in a more positive light.
Because of the failing of its industrial base the South depended on the outside universe for most of its manufactured goods. the Confederacy had to rely more on authorities plans to derive war stuff. because of the strength of the overall economic system.
